WESLACO One Valley woman says the slogan on Taco Bells sauce packets is offensive.
As part of Taco Bells Think outside the bun campaign, the company held a contest last year for slogans to be printed on their sauce packets. Customers submitted their ideas, like When I grow up I want to be a waterbed and You had me at taco.
The one that bothers Jessica Luna says, Not to be used as a flotation device.
She tells NEWSCHANNEL 5, Somewhere along their roots here, somebody came across the border from Mexico. Risking their lives to provide a better a life for their children. This is just a mockery.
Luna says she enjoys Taco Bells food and has always eaten there a lot. But she wants the company to re-think its campaign.
We asked the company about the slogans. Director of Public Relations Rob Poetsch said, Our Sauce Wisdoms are not directed at any specific group of people or at any specific region and are meant to inspire and entertain.
We asked other people what they thought about the companys humor. Customer Olga Garza said, They don't bother me. They're not that funny, but they don't bother me. Many told us they will still eat at the restaurant, despite their tasteless humor.
The company admits it has had a number of complaints about the packet. After our story aired, it decided to remove the one with the reference to a flotation device.
