FBI Response

Agency assures corruption isn't covered up

MCALLEN - An alleged member of the Gulf Cartel tells of the bribery of local, state, and federal authorities. Today the FBI speaks out and tells us that as far as their branch is concerned, that is unlikely.

FBI officials tell us their people don't work on the river. They're more engaged with the point entry, and they're the ones who investigate bribery and dirty deals.

Assistant Special Agent in Charge John Johnson is no stranger to the field of corruption. He's investigated it before. He says it's a threat to national security, and that is why corruption is a high priority for them.

Johnson admits bribery happens and probably more than they'd like to admit. But he assures us corruption is not covered up. It is investigated and taken to court.
