Chertoff's interview named earlier date
WASHINGTON - Department of Homeland Security officials are checking the start date for construction along the Texas-Mexico border.
They now say work in Texas won't begin until after September 30, 2008.
The clarification comes after a Houston Chronicle interview with Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff last week. In the interview, Chertoff said the first part of the fence would go up by this September.
