Border Wall Meeting
Attorney: Environmental laws could be used to stop construction
GRANJENO - Tonight at the border wall meeting people were still up in arms about the border fence that the Department Of Homeland Security plans on building.
They're trying to find the best way to win the battle in court. They think Homeland Security's decision to build the wall has pre-empted many environmental laws already on the books and they say the decision may also cross the boundaries of some constitutional laws.
The people at the meeting are trying to find ways to stop the construction of a border wall and local attorney Ramon Garcia is leading the legal fight, but he has acquired the help of an environmental lawyer from Houston.
Garcia says there's several environmental laws that can be brought into the courtroom to stop the construction.
The team is also bringing in a constitutional lawyer to tackle that part of the case.
Although the Department Of Homeland Security has already made plans to build the wall, some think there's still a long legal fight ahead and opponents of the border wall are also planning a rally on August 25 in La Lomita.
