Alleged mistreatment caught on tape
EDINBURG - A juvenile corrections officer was suspended without pay for allegedly mistreating an inmate at the Evins Juvenile Detention Center.
Rafael Morin is facing a charge of official oppression. That charge applies specifically to a public servant who intentionally mistreats someone.
The 43-year-old turned himself into authorities on Friday.
NEWSCHANNEL 5 is still gathering details about exactly what happened. But we know it involved action against a 16-year-old inmate.
NEWSCHANNEL 5 sources say the incident was caught on camera.
Morin has worked at the Evins facility for more than nine years. He's not out of jail on a PR bond.
We did try to talk to Morin to get his side of the story. But no one answered the door at his house and his wife hung up on us when we called.
