Rubio killed in Iraq last weekend

MISSION - The community in Mission is gathering to honor a fallen soldier.

A candlelight vigil and flag-raising ceremony will be held for Army Specialist Jose Rubio. The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. at City Flower Shop, which is located off Conway Road and First Street. That's where Rubio lived with his family.

The Mission native was one of four soldiers killed in Baghdad last weekend. They died after a roadside bomb blew up near their vehicle.

Rubio had just been deployed to Iraq in October. He leaves behind his wife and their 11-month-old baby boy. He is also survived by his parents, brother, and sisters.

The city is encouraging everyone to attend tonight's vigil and support the Rubio family. Police and city workers will be on hand to direct traffic.

We're told part of Conway Road will be reduced to two lanes between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., so people will have enough room to attend the ceremony.
