Hundreds Gather to Honor Fallen Hero

Families of other fallen soldiers in attendance

MISSION - Residents from across the Valley gathered in Mission today to honor fallen Valley hero Army Specialist Jose Rubio.

A candlelight vigil and a flag raising ceremony were held at the City Flower Shop today.

Families who have also lost their loved ones like the Rubio family attended the vigil, including the families of Sgt. Juan Campos and Specialist Eric Salinas.

The Campos and the Salinas families tell us it's difficult them to attend ceremonies like tonight's, but they needed to be there to support the Rubio family and thank them for their hero's ultimate sacrifice.

Specialist Jose Rubio was killed in Iraq Sunday when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle.

Funeral arrangements are still pending.
