Mission Soldier Laid to Rest

Valley says goodbye to Corporal Joe Rubio

MISSION - Today, family, friends, and the community paid tribute to a fallen soldier. Corporal Jose "Joe" Rubio was laid to rest at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.

A Catholic funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mission. Residents from across the Valley traveled to say their last goodbyes.

Rubio's family was presented with a certificate of citizenship last night. Senator John Cornyn worked to award Corporal Rubio with his U.S. citizenship posthumously because he said Rubio "embodies the true meaning of patriotism."
