Inmate Escapes

Man arraigned three times in two days

PHARR--- The manhunt for an escaped inmate is over this evening. The man was caught late this afternoon after escaping from police custody early this morning.

The incident happened in Pharr.

Authorities tell Newschannel 5 the man was on his way back to the jail after being arraigned for the second time in two days.

He was originally taken in for DWI and possession of cocaine, but authorities discovered he'd been lying about his name so they arraigned him on those charges. It was at that time that the suspect slipped out of his handcuffs and made a run for it.

Police searched by air and land for hours before they were able to catch up with him.
