Burial scheduled for Friday
MISSION - The body of a Mission soldier killed in Iraq is scheduled to arrive home tomorrow.
Army Specialist Alex Gonzalez was killed in action last week, after a rocket-propelled grenade hit his vehicle.
NEWSCHANNEL 5 learned Gonzalez's body will be back in the Valley tomorrow at 10 a.m. He'll arrive via a private charter plane, which will land at McCreery Aviation at the McAllen International Airport.
Family and friends will accompany the body back to Mission. They'll be escorted by the Mission Police Department.
Gonzalez's body will be taken to Virgil Wilson Funeral Home. We've learned the convoy will make a very brief stop in downtown Mission where the flag of Corporal Jose Rubio now flies.
Rubio was also killed in Iraq just over a month ago.
Gonzalez will remain at the funeral home until Friday. That's when a mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Mission.
He'll then be buried at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery.
