Clerk injured in struggle

MISSION - Police are searching for two armed men who attacked a convenience store clerk in Mission.

It happened overnight at the Stripes located on the 1500 block of Conway Avenue.

"Two individuals walked into the store and used a knife to rob the clerk," says Lieutenant Martin Garza of the Mission Police Department.

But the clerk put up a fight. During the struggle, the clerk was injured and the two suspects ran away.

"The clerk did defend his post, but he was unfortunately injured during the scuffle," says Garza. "That's why it's recommended to give up whatever the defendants are wanting to take at the time."

When the two men ran from the store, one of them dropped a white baseball cap. Police say it's a key piece of evidence.

They're asking for help from the public in identifying the suspects. The two men are described as Hispanic between the ages of 18 and 20.

Police tells us officers are making an effort to crack down on the rising number of convenience store robberies. Garza says this was the second store robbery within a week. In both cases, weapons were used.

"We're seeing the suspects get a lot more aggressive," he adds.

If you have any information on the overnight robbery, you're asked to call Mission Crimestoppers at 581-TIPS.
