Trio caught in Mercedes
ALAMO - Robbers targeted hotels and convenience stories in at least two cities.
NEWSCHANNEL 5 confirmed police first responded to a call at a hotel in Alamo. Three allegedly men robbed and threatened a clerk at La Quinta Inn. That happened around 2:30 a.m.
Half an hour later, police in Weslaco also got a call about a robbery. The men allegedly robbed the Fairfield Inn and a Tejano Mart.
Officers spotted the suspects' vehicle. But the men refused to stop. They led police on a high-speed chase.
Weslaco police were unable to arrest the suspects. But a short time later, Mercedes officers found the men, near the La Quinta Inn along the expressway.
They were identified as David Eduardo Garza, Rene Villalobos, and Leonel Gutierrez III.
The three were turned over to the Weslaco Police Department.
