Storm victims denied federal, state funding

SANTA ROSA - Families in Santa Rosa are trying to recover, after a severe storm hit their neighborhood.

Residents are still piling up debris caused by last week's strong winds.

"I had like 10 people help clean the truck. It was all piled on the truck," says Diana Sanchez. "I called Red River, but they'll pick up the branches, not the debris."

Flying debris caused most of the property damage. Some cars were destroyed, and homes were left in ruin.

Sanchez tells us the county won't let her go into her garage to clean, because it's too dangerous.

NEWSCHANNEL 5 has learned damage reported in Cameron County didn't meet the minimum for state or federal funding.

County residents affected by the storm are asked to contact the Red Cross if they need assistance.
