BERLIN (AP) - Serena Williams's 17-match winning streak ended Friday with a 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 loss to Dinara Safina in the German Open quarterfinals.
Williams, who was chasing a fourth straight title, let a 4-3 lead slip away in the third set tiebreaker, sending a forehand long and wide to end the match.
Williams is the 10th top-10 victim the 17-year-old Safina, who is the 22-year-old sister of two-time grand slam champion Marat Safin. She's ranked 17th in the world.
