Some Residents Still Worried
Brownsville, TX - Right now several residents in Cameron County are headed to shelters. That's where they are guaranteed a safe, dry place to sleep. And when they check in, they won't be asked for proof of I.D.
Hanna High School is just one of the shelters where people can seek refuge from Hurricane Dolly here in Cameron County. And all new this hurricane season, people will not be asked for I.D. That means no one will be turned away tonight.
NEWSHCANNEL 5 spotted several families unloading blankets, bags, and gallons of water, all headed into Hanna High school. NEWSCHANNEL 5 cameras were not allowed inside, but security is going through people's personal belongings, making sure no one brings in alcohol, weapons or anything that could be considered harmful. Jose Beatriz shows us his driver's license. He has it ready but knows it's not a necessity since he's here to stay out of danger, Beatriz says it's not safe in his apartment. That's why he'll join the Ramirez family. NEWSCHANNEL 5 caught up with them as they unloaded there pillows and blankets. But what they don't have, I.D. Only two of them have a driver's license. They were too busy tying up loose ends to get the little ones ID cards. Ramirez says she was boarding up windows and cleaning up.
