Residents forced out of homes

EDINBURG - More than 2,500 people are waking up in 9 different shelters scattered across Hidalgo County.

NEWSCHANNEL 5 went to the shelter at South Jr. High in Edinburg.

Many of the residents were forced out of their homes due to the weather. Most are from the Edinburg area, but some have traveled from Mission or even the Mid-Valley.

Evacuees were housed inside class rooms and they were kept with their immediate families as space would allow.

One family is grateful to police for bringing them there and the school district for taking them in.
