Over 36,000 meals served
The Salvation Army of Texas has sent additional Canteens (mobile feeding units) from across Texas to continue Hurricane Dolly relief efforts. Before the hurricane made landfall on Tuesday, July 22, through Sunday, July 27, The Salvation Army has served more than 36,000 meals, given out close to 45,000 drinks and has supplied around 30,000 snacks to Hurricane Dolly victims.
Additionally, The Salvation Army has taken 340 cleaning/rebuilding orders and 94 grocery orders. Other supplies such as comfort kits, ice, etc., have been provided as needed.
The Salvation Army of 23 cities have rallied to support relief efforts by sending Canteens and workers from their cities. Those supporting cities not only include affected areas like McAllen and Harlingen, but also Lubbock, Pasadena, Dallas, Austin, Corpus Christi, Beaumont, Laredo, Port Arthur, Lufkin, San Antonio, Galveston, Fort Worth, San Angelo, Conroe, Tyler, Waco, Abilene, Houston, Odessa, Temple and Big Spring.
As areas of need are discovered, The Salvation Army Canteens go out to meet those needs. Cities where The Salvation Army is helping those affected by Hurricane Dolly's destructive forces include Raymondville, Pharr, San Benito, South Padre Island, Port Isabel, Harlingen, Los Fresnos, Santa Rosa, Brownsville, La Feria, Elsa, Laguna Vista, Rio Hondo, Weslaco, McAllen, Port Mansfield, Sebastian and Sunrise Hill Park. In some of the cities the need is so large that multiple feeding locations are available.
The Salvation Army plans to stay in all affected areas until there is no longer any need.
