Victim survived fall off motorcycle only to be hit by SUV
MCALLEN - Police in McAllen are questioning a 19-year-old motorcycle driver and looking for the person at the wheel of a red SUV. All this is after a teenage girl was killed in an accident. It happened around 1 a.m. near Nikki Rowe High School on Ware Road in McAllen.
Police say the victim was riding on the motorcycle, when she fell off and landed on the street. The driver of the bike sped off. Witnesses told police the girl was alive at the time, but she was later hit and killed by a red SUV. That driver also left the girl on the street.
Resident living nearby say the stretch of road is dangerous. Herman Ochoa tells us, "There is really no sign that says you can't turn left or right there, so people mistaken it for a turning lane. And the oncoming traffic actually has the right of way, so it's pretty dangerous."
Again, the 19-year old motorcycle is now in police custody. Officers are looking for a red SUV. NEWSCHANNEL 5 is working to get a vehicle description and the name of the girl who was killed.
