Burn Ban
Rain reduced grass fire potential
CAMERON - The burn ban in Cameron County is no more. NEWSCHANNEL 5 learned potential for grass fires decreased because of recent rain. As hurricane season continues, the county also wants to make sure brush and debris is cleared from the streets. Emergency Management Coordinator Johnny Cavazos says although the burn ban might be lifted, there are still rules for what can be burned. "The only thing allowed to be burned in Cameron County is brush. Anything green and dry is allowed. No treated lumber, trash, plastic, nothing whatsoever," explains Cavazos. A permit is necessary for burning brush.
