Child Dropped off at Wrong Location

Five-year-old had to cross busy street to get home

MCALLEN - Destiny Odrego was all smiles on her first day of kindergarten. But by the end of the day, her smile turned into tears.

At the end of her first day, the 5-year-old rode the bus home but was dropped off at the wrong location. She was forced to cross Bicentennial and alongside the access road of the expressway.

By the time the child got home she was in tears. To make matters worse, no one was there to greet her, because they were waiting for at the right bus stop.

Her family is very upset. They tell us they want to think about what could have happened to Destiny, and they just want to know how this could have happened.

Norma Zamora Guerra, with the McAllen School District, tells us it was an honest mistake and is just glad the child is okay.

Destiny did go back to school the next day. But this time,her family decided to pick her up.
