Home Depot says it faces at least 44 lawsuits in the United States and Canada over a data breach earlier this year that affected 56 million debit and credit cards. The nation's biggest home improvement retailer says in a regulatory filing today that several state and federal agencies also are looking into the data breach and it may face more litigation from customers, banks, shareholders and others. Home Depot disclosed the breach in September.

The chief of the county police says unless his agency could bring in 10,000 officers, he doesn't think there's a way to stop people who, in his words, "really are intent on destroying a community."

But the streets of the St. Louis suburb are mostly clear this morning. The community erupted into unrest after a grand jury decided not to indict a white police officer in the killing of unarmed black 18-year-old Michael Brown. Authorities reported hearing hundreds of gunshots.

A flood warning is issued until late this afternoon for parts of a five-county area of western New York, as the 7 feet of snow that fell last week continues to melt in warmer weather. The National Weather Service says moderate flooding is possible along some creeks in the area, but fears of disastrous conditions have eased. All public schools in Buffalo have reopened after having been closed since last Tuesday.
