    A late round of buying is leaving stock indexes mostly higher. Bond prices fell, sending yields higher, on word that Federal Reserve policymakers are leaning toward raising interest rates. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 59 points, or 0.4 percent, to close at 16,979. The S&P 500 rose five points, or 0.3 percent, to 1,986. The Nasdaq was flat at 4,526.

    A Houston mom is now charged with a felony, accused of passing out with her baby in a car seat. Shonda Shellesha Joseph, 24, is charged with endangering a child after an incident that took place on Monday. A witness called for help after he reportedly saw Joseph stumbling across a street while holding a car seat. He told police she then sat down in a chair outside a tire shop, set the baby on the ground and passed out. The heat index reached 100 degrees that day.

    Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry has formally pleaded not guilty to criminal charges that he abused his office when he vetoed state funding for public corruption prosecutors. The potential 2016 presidential candidate entered his plea in a Travis County court filing. Perry has been defiant since a grand jury in Austin indicted him last week on charges of trying to leverage his power to force the ouster of the Travis County district attorney after her arrest for drunken driving.
