Part-time News Editor
Must have experience with electronic video editing systems, experience in videotape production, and editing of news stories. This person may work a variety of shifts.

 

Chief Engineer
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the technology necessary to maintain the station's broadcast "on-the-air" within the parameters of FCC licensing and regulations. The Chief Engineer works to maintain and improve existing broadcasting capabilities and provides solid management and technical skills to resolve problems that may arise with any issues that may affect any aspect of the broadcast facilities and equipment.

  • Determines needs and prepares detailed budget requests and recommendations, including written specifications and justifications.
  • Oversees day-to-day equipment maintenance, and schedules, coordinates, and supervises all major system and component maintenance and fabrication.
  • Supervises the setup of special equipment, remote installations, and ensures that all engineering operations meet objectives.
  • Supervises or performs preventive maintenance, installation, design, and/or fabrication of IP based video systems.
  • Assigns, reviews, and evaluates technical work of engineering and operations personnel
  • Supervises and assists with the proper professional operation and maintenance of all technical systems.
  • Prepares preliminary and long range 5-year plans, estimates, and budgets
  • Advises, assists, and instructs operating and maintenance personnel in matters pertaining to all aspects of broadcast operations.
  • Assures that the Federal Communications Commission requirements in regards to licensing, operating, and technical performance of video equipment are met and maintained.
  • Makes hardware and procedural recommendations to management.
  • Must demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, minimize equipment down- times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • A solid working knowledge of PC's, networks, routers, MS operating systems and application software.
  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent team participation and personal leadership abilities, along with organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Experience in broadcast engineering, studio and transmitter skills, micro-wave link experience and strong familiarity with digital equipment and IP based technology.
  • Must work flexible hours and maintain 24/7 on-call availability.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required. Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Must maintain high standards for customer relations and satisfaction both external and internal.
  • Must be able to maintain the broadcast transmitter and have the technical expertise to perform any and all maintenance required to keep the station "On Air".
  • This is a "hands-on" position that requires basic and advanced television engineering training.
  • Must be able to bend, lift and carry up to a maximum of 70 pounds.
  • Must provide documentation of technical training and qualifications.

Accountability: The Chief Engineer is a crucial part of the broadcasting team. This position reports directly to the General Manager at KRGV.

 

News Producer
Skills: Looking for a creative producer with a great "can do" attitude who is not afraid to leave his or her comfort zone. Must be willing to think differently than most newscast producers and try new things. You will live in a warm climate, where the cost of living is low. You will get a chance to produce newscasts with content unlike that of most other markets. The job market is Harlingen, McAllen, Brownsville, Weslaco.

Duties: Cover all aspects of the broadcast: news writing, editorial judgment, guest booking and coordination of live shots. A college degree in Communicationa or related field required. Prefer at least one year experience in a television station. Candidate must be reliable and have good people skills.
