A Soldier's Poem Poem

I am a caring mother. My son has gone to war. My mind is filled with worries that I've never known before. Everyday I fight to keep my thoughts from turning black. I may be scared, but I am proud ...My son has got your back. I am a strong and loving wife, with a husband soon to go. Though many times I'm terrified in a way most never know. I bite my lip and force a smile as I watch my husband pack. My heart may break, but I am proud...My husband has got your back. I am a small and precious child, my Dad's been sent to fight. The only place I'll see his face, is in my dreams at night. He will be gone too many days, for my little heart to track I may be sad, but I am proud...My Daddy has got your back. I am America's soldier, serving proudly, standing tall. I fight for freedom, yours and mine, by answering this call. I do my job though knowing still the Thanks if often lacks. Please say a prayer that I'll come home...for it's me who has got your back.

I recently found myself browsing through your website and found the section dedicated to our Hometown Heroes. Periodically going through your website is the only way I'm able to keep current with what's going in my part of the country from abroad. I've been away from the comforts that Americans are used to for about 8 months and counting. I hope I can speak for all the individuals on your Hometown Hero list when I say that it is well worth it. A small thank you goes a long way and you send a great thank you to us with your recognitions. I hope you can convey to the RGV that your troops aren't here because we are thirsty for war, but rather yurn for peace when we can go back to our significant others, friends, and family. Rest assured that when our job is done most of us will be able to return to our loved ones safely. If you could, please post this poem on your page/newspaper. I think it will give hope to those who are hopeless. Thank you for any attention you've given.

SPC Tafolla, Eduardo
United States Armed Forces

I am Spc Tafolla I have been here in Iraq for the past 7 months serving our great nation. I have to say that with all that has happened to all of us that I am happy and proud that so many people have given us support. We all know it is hard to leave loved ones but with this sacrifice that we are making we can at least hope that eventually there will be peace. There is something that I know a lot of the soldiers have said and that is that a little thanks goes a long way out here and keeps us moving. Now I want to give thanks to all those people that stood by our side and never gave up on us when it got hard. To my family and friends who this has been one of the hardest things that they have had to go through I want to thank you for everything and I will be back home. One last thing this is to the families that have lost someone in this war "Thank you for everything that you love ones did for this country."

SPC Robles
United States Army

Hi Valley. I am SPC Robles, Jr., Monseis. I am from Raymondville and am stationed in Iraq right now. I am here serving our country for the freedom that we have and that way my kids don't have too in the future. I want to say to my wife (Debra Ann Robles) and my kids that I am very proud of you all. I know that you have made a great sacrifice by being apart from me as I have been apart from you. I have been blessed with such a wonderful and supportive family. I want to thank the Valley for supporting all of the service members, especially supporting the ones from the Valley. And too the families that have lost loved ones. I feel your pain, but I know that those brave men & women gave up something for all of us. And I salute you and your families. They have made the ultimate sacrifice and I will too if need be. God Bless the Rio Grande Valley and its Raza. Us soldiers from the Valley love and miss it very dearly. To my family, My Luv (Debra) I miss you very much and Love You very much. My children, take care of your mom and be safe out there...I will be home soon. I LOVE YOU ALL.
