MIAMI (AP) - Attorneys are presenting closing arguments in the second trial of a group of Miami men accused of plotting with al-Qaida to attack Chicago's Sears Tower and FBI offices.
The first trial of the so-called "Liberty City Seven" ended last year with a hung jury for six of the defendants and the acquittal of a seventh.
The men are accused of conspiring with an FBI informant in hopes of starting a war with the U.S. government. Prosecutors say the alleged ringleader was on a "mission" to destroy the United States.
The defendant has said he was never serious and only went along with the terrorism talk to try to con the informant out of $50,000. Defense attorneys are expected to make closing arguments Wednesday.
Each of the men faces up to 70 years in prison if convicted.
