IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Authorities in Iowa City, Iowa, have released 911 tapes of a call received Monday -- from a former bank executive suspected of killing his wife and four children.

Authorities say Steven Sueppel, who had been charged with embezzlement, reported the bodies of his wife and four children would be found inside the family home.

After the children died, Sueppel tried to drown himself in the Iowa River without success. He later crashed into a freeway abutment and was killed.

In a news conference Tuesday, investigators said they believe Sueppel killed his wife, then tried to kill himself and his children by asphyxiating them with carbon monoxide in the garage. When that failed, he killed the children one by one in the house.
