Becky Medellin came to NEWSCHANNEL 5 in October 2006.
She got her first break reporting for KGNS, the NBC affiliate in Laredo, Texas. During her time there she reported about an ongoing case of contamination at a former factory site. She also covered the violent 2006 attack on the Nuevo Laredo office of the Mexican newspaper El Maņana, exposing the danger journalists face in the city.
Becky graduated from Yale University in 2004. She earned a bachelor's degree in history. She also focused on women's and gender studies. She wrote her thesis about the women's health movement and how women took control of their own health care as a form of empowerment during the 1960s and 1970s. She also studied French for three years and spent a semester abroad in Paris, France, where she discovered her love of all things French.
Becky was born in Virginia while her dad was in the Navy. The family moved around with him, spending time in South Carolina and Naples, Italy. Today her parents, Jerry and Sandra, have resettled in Laredo, their hometown. In her spare time you can find Becky cooking, shopping, running in the park, and reading. She also spends time with her friends, her little cousin, and her first little nephew, Aiden. She has two sisters, Sarah and Jennifer.
