Cary Zayas

News Anchor

Cary is a valley native, born and raised in Brownsville, Texas. She graduated from James Pace high School in 1986, then went on to attend Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. There, she majored in Broadcast Journalism and minored in Spanish. Cary received her Bachelor's Degree from SWT in 1991. That's also the year she came to work for NEWSCHANNEL 5. For three years, Cary anchored our morning newscast, Eyewitness News This Morning. Then in 1994, became our five and ten o'clock news anchor. Cary is now the Special Projects anchor.

"I have an incredible job. It's my duty to keep the people in the valley informed about what's happening around them. That's a huge responsibility. People here trust that I'll bring them news that's accurate and significant to their lives."

Cary and her husband, Eli Lizka, have made their home in McAllen, where Eli owns a clothing store. They're the proud parents of a two beautiful girls, Elise Danielle and Natalie ilana.

"My parents, in-laws, grandmother, brothers & sisters and aunts & uncles all live in the valley and that's really nice. It's not often in this business that you have the opportunity to work so close to home and those you love. I guess you could say I have the best of both worlds. A great place to work and my grandmother's homemade flour tortillas any time I want them!"
