Writing has always been Mayra's passion, but it was not until her sophomore year of college that she decided to pursue her career in journalism. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Houston with a double major in journalism and Spanish. While earning her degrees, she juggled several internships, was active in her community, and contributed to her school's paper, The Daily Cougar.
Living in a big city like Houston gave Mayra the opportunity to intern at several local TV stations and take the first step toward her career. She first interned at the city's channel working as a production assistant. From there, she went on to intern at the Fox and CBS affiliate stations. Mayra gained most of her journalism experience while working as a radio reporter for KPFT. There she covered political and social issues affecting the Hispanic community of Houston. Mayra was also a correspondent and Spanish host for the city's monthly aviation show, Houston Airports Today.
Mayra's lifetime goals include writing a book, traveling the world, and becoming a TV news anchor all while having a family of her own.
