Mireya Villarreal

Mireya Villarreal graduated from the University of Texas at Pan American in 2001. That's where she played NCAA Division 1 Tennis and majored in Business with a concentration in Marketing. She also attended St. Mary's University Law School in San Antonio.

Mireya always knew her heart was never with business or law, but rather reporting. She's always wanted to help people and feels the news business is the perfect way to do it. Mireya started her career behind the scenes at NEWSCHANNEL 5 as a producer. She left the Valley for a year and a half to work as a sports anchor and sports reporter in Laredo. In the summer of 2005, she returned home to NEWSCHANNEL 5 as a reporter.

Mireya covers news from Roma to Falfurrias, down into Mexico, and all the way to the tip of Texas. And as much as she loves an interesting crime story, she also enjoys working with children, covering the border, and exposing health issues in the Valley.

Mireya is a Valley native, born and raised in Edinburg. That's where her family still resides. She's a sports fanatic and loves to be outdoors.
