Rick Diaz

News Anchor

Rick started as a night photographer for KRGV-TV while still attending what was known then as Pan American University. Promoted to reporter and weekend news photographer a few years later, Rick quickly progressed to the positions of Weekend News Anchor, 6 o'clock News Anchor, and finally to News Director for the NEWSCHANNEL 5 Team in 1976.

In June of 1998, Rick retired after 31 years, 22 of which were spent as News Director and News Anchor... We're pleased to have convinced Rick to come out of retirement!

For almost two decades, KRGV-TV has been number one in news in the Rio Grande Valley. During his tenure as News Director, Rick was invited to the White House in Washington on several occasions. He was invited three different times by former President Ronald Reagan and again by President Bill Clinton.

Rick is married to Rosalinda Diaz, principal at Clover Elementary in San Juan. They have two daughters, both in education.
