Rita Garcia

Rita joined the NEWSCHANNEL 5 team in September 2006 and is the Brownsville bureau reporter.

She's a cum laude graduate of Texas State University (Go Bobcats!), where she was the news director for the campus radio station, KTSW.

She headed to Washington D.C. and worked for NPR (National Public Radio) after graduation. She had an amazing experience as the executive producer of the "next generation-intern edition" program.

She made her way back to Texas and landed her first job as a television reporter for NEWSCHANNEL 5.

Rita's favorite part about reporting is the storytelling. She says, "To see the impact a story can have after it airs is what inspires me everyday."
