PHARR - The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Pharr District started preparation for Tropical Storm Dolly. TxDOT has ordered all 8 maintenance sections in the lower 8 counties of the state to begin preparing equipment, material, supplies, and scheduling personnel for a possible Tropical Storm or Hurricane landfall. Construction contractors in the Rio Grande Valley have been put on notice that a Tropical Storm is in the Gulf of Mexico so they may begin making preparations.
Beginning on Tuesday, July 22nd, TxDOT will open the 24 hour District Command Center to assist local law enforcement, city, county and state officials prepare for a possible landfall and will remain open until the storm makes landfall and roadways and bridges are safe for travel.

Important Tips for Residents:
1. Keep track of the weather regularly
2. Know your evacuation routes. Keep a hurricane evacuation map and
a regular state map in your vehicles at all times.
3. Evacuate with time do not wait until the last minute.
4. Keep your vehicles gas tanks full at all times.
5. Have emergency cash for fuel and other hurricane necessities.
6. Have your emergency supplies ready flash lights, candles, water,
canned foods, medication, first aid kit, and important document.
TxDOT's goal before, during and after a tropical storm/hurricane emergency is to get people to safety, get people home safely and help in the cleanup and recovery. We are working with state emergency management officials and local officials to provide TxDOT resources and expertise necessary to ensure the safety of all Texas residents.
