Heart of the Valley: A Helping Hand

Not since Hurricane Beulah has the Rio Grande Valley seen widespread rain like it experienced in late June. Due to severe flooding, many Valley residents lost all of their belongings and suffered extensive damage to their homes. Join Channel 5 and our partners, as we help low-income families rebuild from this tragedy.

Donations will benefit the Helping Hand Disaster Relief program of Habitat for Humanity of the Rio Grande Valley.

The program will assist with reconstruction and support for those who have been affected by this disaster. Help will include rebuilding, repairing, as well as providing furniture, blankets and pillows. Recipients are screened by Habitat for Humanity of the Rio Grande Valley. They must provide proof of damage or be a referral from a church or other organization.

In addition, recipients must provide a permanent residence card and proof of income. A family is considered low-income if they earn equal to or less than the following limits. Annual income limits depending the amount of people living at home. A family of one, $31,650; family of two, $36,200; three, $40,700; four, $45,200; five, $48,850; six, $52,450; seven, $56,050; eight, $59,700.

Our partners have agreed to donate $10,000 each to the Heart of the Valley: A Helping Hand effort. All funds raised will be donated to the Habitat for Humanity of the Rio Grande Valley: Helping Hand Disaster Relief program. Our goal is to raise $100,000 between sponsor and viewer donations.
