GEAR UP

GEAR UP is a project that serves 21 school districts from Port Isabel to Laredo. The purpose of the project is to encourage parents and students to consider post-secondary education.

The program provides parents and students with mentoring opportunities, university visits, and important information regarding college options.

NEWSCHANNEL 5 anchorwoman Letty Garza is the GEAR UP spokesperson and donates countless hours speaking to students in large assemblies and small groups. She is talent for numerous public service announcements encouraging parents to get involved.

Each week, Letty produces a news feature about GEAR UP that airs in our highly watched 10 p.m. newscast.
