MCALLEN - A McAllen woman says she paid a hundred dollars for glasses she never got.
Elizabeth Garza says she bought her eyeglasses at Payless Wholesale Optical in
McAllen. It's where she always shopped.
She tells us she paid $100 and planned to pay off the balance when she picked up the glasses.
When she returned, she says it looked like the store was closing. Garza says a manager reluctantly opened the door and promised to send her a refund check by mail.
That was in August. She says she's still waiting for her refund.
So Garza called 5 On Your Side for help.
"I just want to make sure that he is not going to skip out. They're not giving us any information," she says.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS visited the optical store. It was closed. A sign says it's closed for remodeling and inventory.
We spoke to a man who says he owns the building but not the store. He tells us the owner of the store is based out of Houston.
"This optical business just filed for bankruptcy," he explained. "I am the owner of the building, not of the operation."
The man adds he once owned the eyeglasses store and sold it. He tells us he wants to get it back to rebuild the business and customer base.
Garza tells us she just went by the store. She says the man who spoke to us honored her receipt with money from his own pocket.
He only had $70 but promised her she'd get the rest tomorrow.
