WESLACO - Socorro Zamarron has lived in the same place for 45 years. She says her long-time home is being overrun by mosquitoes and gnats, and they all come from an overgrown drainage ditch.
Her niece tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS they've been trying to get it cleaned up for years, but they haven't been able too.
"Everyone's pretty much pointing the finger at another department," says Emmy Rivera.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS stepped in to find out who is responsible.
"If there is a ditch in this area, it would be county or drainage district or irrigation district," says George Garrett from the city of Weslaco.
Hidalgo County Precinct 1 says the ditch actually belongs to the irrigation district, not the county, but they offered to clean it up.
"We figure that is our problem, because it's affecting our constituents, so that's why in fact we're responding," says Joseph Palacios.
Precinct 1 says they will start the work as early as Friday.
