McALLEN - Eddie Cortez is making progress, following an electrical accident back in 2006. He was shocked with 7200 volts at least twice.
His upper body was completely charred, except for the brown scapular of Mt. Carmel he was wearing the day of the accident.
Cortez says the scapular saved his life.
He's made at least 30 trips to San Antonio for treatment since NEWSCHANNEL 5 first interviewed him in 2007. He's had nearly a half dozen surgeries.
Doctors even implanted two expanders to create new skin to be used to reconstruct Cortez's face and neck. That surgery had some promising results.
Cortez says his faith is helping him through the difficult times. He's shared what he calls the Miracle of the Brown Scapular with several people. Some people criticize him, saying he was just looking for fame.
Cortez says he just wants people to know.
"I just want people to be aware of how my life was saved. Once I tell my story, they can draw their own conclusion," he says.
