HIDALGO COUNTY - An Hidalgo County stable owner is upset at seeing a horse killed near his property, and he's sadden even more by the fact no one has claimed the animal.
Juan Lucio makes his living caring for horses. That's why seeing a horse dead right in front of his home is so hard. He says, "It makes me sad seeing this horse tossed aside."
Lucio owns D-Mary's Stables on Mile Six near Weslaco. He says he saw a truck hit this animal Thursday night. Lucio says, "I say the horse here dying."
Lucio doesn't know who it belongs to. He thinks the horse wandered away from someone. He covered its face and called authorities. A man who devoted his life to horses thinks the owner and the driver each bear responsibility for the animal's death.
