RAYMONDVILLE - J.R. Garza has the heart of a football player. He shows up to every practice and goes to every game to cheer the team on.

But his coach is worried he might get hurt if he was on the sidelines of a game.

"We give him a jersey.  And he stands on the track, because I'd hate for him to be too close to the sidelines.  Because I'd hate for him to get hurt.  That's my main concern," says Coach Alex Leal.

Garza's parents understand the coach's concern, but they say that's the reason they always supervise him during games.

J.R.'s mother and brother called CHANNEL 5 NEWS to try and get him a chance at being on the field for the last game of his high school career.

"Maybe for this last game it would be memorable for him to run out with the team suited up completely," says Ruben Garza.

The coach says it's just not possible due to the safety concern.

J.R.'s family says despite not being allowed to suit up, he will still be at the game to cheer his favorite team on against their arch rival Lyford.
