MISSION - A man shot by a state trooper is out of the intensive care unit.
After the past nine days in the ICU, Jesus Garza has moved to a regular hospital room at the McAllen Medical Center.
The 38-year-old’s attorney tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS his client is doing much better after undergoing hand surgery. The attorney says Garza was shot twice by the trooper - once in the hand and once in the back.
The shooting happened north of Mission on October 24. A trooper pulled Garza over for going the wrong way down Moorefield Road.
The trooper says Garza took off running, while he was administering a field sobriety test. The two allegedly struggled in the street. The trooper says he was forced to fire in self-defense.
The Texas Rangers continue to investigate the shooting. Meanwhile, the trooper involved is back on duty.
