    MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - The Nassau County homicide squad in New York says it was a police officer's bullet that killed a Hofstra University student early Friday morning. Andrea Rebello was being held in a headlock at gunpoint by a masked intruder when the officer who had responded to the home invasion fired. Police say Dalton Smith had verbally threatened to kill the 21-year-old Rebello, when he pointed his gun and the officer fired.

    Dallas police say a 1-year-old child left in a locked vehicle in an elementary school parking lot has died. Police say a witness who saw the child in the car broke out a window, removed the child and started CPR. The child was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. Police say the child's parent, a teacher at the elementary school, is being interviewed at police headquarters. Police say it's an ongoing investigation.
