WESLACO - The number of unbeaten Valley high school football teams has dropped from 12 to nine after the week two schedule of games.  Economedes fell from the ranks of the unbeaten after failing to tie the game with Edinburg North in the closing minutes.  The Cougars won 21-20 and staked a claim to the Valley's top-ranking in 5A football.  Dave's Dozen, CHANNEL 5's weekly poll of 5A and sub-5A teams, will make the latest call on the local rankings on Monday night.  The top 5A spot is open after McAllen Memorial edged San Benito 13-12 on Thursday.  On the sub-5A side, Mission justified another week at number one after forcing overtime, then winning over Tuloso-Midway 31-24 in two extra periods.  The sub-5A unbeatens, all 3-and-0, are Mission, Roma and Valley View.  PSJA Southwest took its first loss of the season at Grulla.  On the 5A side, Donna, Sharyland, Edinburg North, PSJA Memorial, Brownsville Veterans Memorial and McAllen have yet to lose.  Sharyland is 2-and-0.  The other 5A unbeatens are all 3-and-0.  90 points total were scored in PSJA Memorial's win over PSJA.  80 points total came in Sharyland's win over Laredo Alexander.  Narrow victories were recorded by Juarez-Lincoln over Palmview 17-15 and Valley View over Hidalgo 16-14.
