RAYMONDVILLE - J.R. Garza has practiced every day with the Raymondville Bearkat Football team, and shown up to every game. The only thing he was never allowed to do was dress and run with the team onto the field.
After we first told you about J.R. on Wednesday, the coaches decided to allow him to dress for the final game of his senior year.
Coaches were initially worried he might get hurt, but eventually decided to let him live his dream.
J.R. Garza's family was on hand to see him live his dream.
He first held hands with his team mates during the National Anthem, then he helped lead the team onto the field.
The entire night was very emotional for his family, his mom could only say she was very happy and proud to see her son have this moment.
Following our initial report, CHANNEL 5 NEWS was flooded with emails of support for J.R. Garza, one local trainer even put together a special trophy and award for him. Which he was presented with during the school's pep-rally Friday afternoon.
