SAN BENITO - San Benito police released the name of an 85-year-old man killed in an accident yesterday.
He was identified as Alfredo Lopez of San Benito. We're told he was heading home at the time of the accident.
Authorities say the driver of a 1997 Ford pickup truck was exiting Wal-Mart and turning left onto Business 77. They tell us the driver saw Lopez standing in the middle turn lane and thought he would wait to cross the street.
Police say the 85-year-old kept walking. They add the driver tried to avoid Lopez but couldn't.
We're told Lopez was hit on the right side of his body and had skull damage. He was pronounced dead on scene.
Police say the driver cooperated fully and stopped to render aid. The driver isn't facing any charges tonight.
However, authorities are waiting the results of a blood test.
