12 Charged in Spring Break Stabbing

CAMERON COUNTY - Twelve defendants were reindicted by the new Cameron County District Attorney on Tuesday in the stabbing of a man during Spring Break on South Padre Island.

Officials said the men are accused of stabbing Derek Madrigal, 21, of Dallas.

The suspects are believed to be members of the Mexican Mafia prison gang. The men were charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder and engaging in criminal activity.

The suspects will be back in court on Feb. 13.
