EL PASO, Texas (AP) A soldier stationed at Fort Bliss has been arrested on drunken driving charges in the deaths of two highway workers in West Texas.

El Paso police say the driver, 18-year-old Jan Michael Nieves, crashed into the men while they were working construction on Interstate 10 early Sunday morning. Police say he disregarded a traffic barricade.

Police say 39-year-old James Green died at the scene while 54-year-old Jimmy Joe Broadstreet died while being treated at a hospital.

The driver was identified by Fort Bliss officials as a soldier with the U.S. Army's 1st Armored Division. He was arrested on two counts of intoxication manslaughter and was held Monday in the El Paso County Detention Facility on $200,000 bond.
