BASTROP, Texas (AP) Two Central Texas law enforcement officers have been demoted and suspended after training records were altered following a fatal shooting by a deputy.

The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday announced Lt. Joey Dzienowski was demoted to patrol deputy and suspended for 240 hours.

Sheriff Terry Pickering says Sgt. David Repka was demoted to patrol deputy and suspended for 32 hours.

Pickering says field training records for Deputy Daniel Willis were modified after he fatally shot Yvette Smith on Feb. 16. Deputies had responded to a domestic disturbance call.

Pickering says he does not believe the officers acted maliciously but knew the documents were not up to date and wanted them completed accurately. The sheriff says no records should have been changed after the shooting.

Texas Rangers are helping investigate.
