HIDALGO COUNTY - Six people died Monday afternoon after a high-speed chase northwest of Mission.

A vehicle being pursued on Western Road slammed into a white SUV at the intersection with Mile 7 Road. Several other cars were involved in the accident, officials said.

State troopers said three of the crash survivors were taken to McAllen Medical Center.

A witness at the scene said the vehicle being chased did not stop at the traffic light.

"I was travelling south on Western Road. Police were chasing a truck at about 100 miles per hour, and they ran the red light," Elizabeth Botello said.

She was released from a hospital hours after the crash.

"The truck slammed into a white SUV with children in it. It hit another car that was driving in front of me; the truck ended up on top of my car. My two nephews were in my car at the time of the accident. It was horrible, it was horrible. Several children died," Botello said.

Officials said the suspect's truck was reported stolen out of Alton.
