ALAMO - An abandoned business is causing problems in downtown Alamo. One woman says dead animals in the building are causing problems for her business.

From the outside looking in, it's hard to see a problem. As you walk through these doors, the issue becomes apparent.

"The problem is that we come to work every single day, Monday through Friday 9 to 5, and we have to deal with a business that's empty, infested with pigeons, feces of animals, dead cats," says Elizabeth Barron.

The smell is hard to handle. Trying to run a business next door has proven difficult.

"You have a lot of Winter Texans that live close by so they come walking and they ask what the problem here is and why nobody is taking care of it," says Barron.

Evidence in the form of footprints can be seen. Electrical wires have also been left hanging. One worry sticks out in Barron's mind.

"I mean what if a homeless person or someone who's dangerous does go in there and we don't even know about it," says Barron.

Barron says they've dealt with this problem for a few years now. She says they've called the city. If nothing's done soon, they'll go a different route.

"We don't want to come anywhere near this business or place. If anything, the next step is to call CDC," says Barron.

We went to the city manager looking for answers.

"It's very important. It's right in the middle of downtown. The building on the outside itself looks pretty neat. It's been closed for such a long time. I think that's why. You leave things closed and if you don't start paying attention to them, eventually there's going to be some kind of vandalism, maybe people finding a way to get in there and things like that. But we're going to keep very close tabs on this situation and get it straightened out," says City Manager Luciana Ozuna.

Ozuna says he's already sent out a code enforcement officer to check it out. He tells us he made contact with the owner of the business. He promised to stop by later this evening to lock up the doors and clean up the area.
