BROWNVILLE - The founder of Pan American Airlines was sentenced to 30 years in jail. Robert Hedrick was convicted on child pornography charges in May.

Prosecutors said the 61-year-old had explicit chats with undercover officers posing as teenage girls.

His sentencing was announced just before noon today. Hedrick must also pay more than five million dollars in fines and was ordered to register as a sex offender. He is also required to serve a lifetime of supervised release following completion of his prison term.

The federal jury announced the sentencing after six days of trial and less than three hours of deliberation. They rejected Hedrick's testimony that he was framed as part of a long-term conspiracy hatched by former business partners and various drug cartels, so that they could smuggle drugs, guns and nuclear materials through the Brownsville airport.
